The Alpine 1 tufa occurrence is located on Little Foster Creek, on the north shore of Kinbasket Lake and approximately 40 kilometres north west of Golden. In 2002, prospecting resulted in the discovery of several outcrops of tufa rocks, exposed along logging roads. Approximately 200 kilograms of tufa was collected from the outcrops for analysis.

The area is underlain by limestone, marble, calcareous sedimentary rocks of the Middle Cambrian Kinbasket unit, and mudstone and siltstone sedimentary rocks of Tsar Creek unit, both of the Chancellor Group.

Locally, outcrops of tufa occur, ranging from 30 to 145 metres in length, 2 to 10 metres in height and approximately 100 metres in width. The tufa is described as being of high quality with a high degree of brightness (ARIS 26992).

The following results were obtained from two rock samples (Alpine/2002-R1, and Alpine/2002-R2) and collected across 145 metres by 30 metres of tufa rocks. The results, below, indicate that the tufa rock is limestone (Assessment Report 26992).
